The 3 Types of Metabolism

Metabolism is the process by which your body converts food into energy. Metabolic rates vary from person to person and depend on genetics, gender, weight, and even diet. Let’s explore how metabolism works as well as what you can do to increase your metabolic rate.

Everyone has a metabolism, and there are three different types of metabolism, and you can likely tell what kind of metabolism someone has by what they eat/how much they eat and how they look.

For example, we all know someone who is super skinny, never gains an ounce and can eat whatever they want. We also know people (or maybe those people, myself included) who gain fat and weight very quickly, and it’s much harder for those people to lose weight—as a result, these people often watch what they eat.

These different types of metabolism are endomorph, ectomorph, and mesomorph.

Endomorph:

Endomorphs are characterized by a softer, rounder body or a short, stocky build. If you gain muscle or fat quickly but find fat hard to lose, then consider yourself an endomorph. Endomorphs also have a slow metabolism.

Perks of an endomorph, though? It’s easier for endomorphs to build muscle and are often pretty strong due to carrying their own weight.

Ectomorph:

People with an ectomorph metabolism tend to be smaller in frame and bone structure. They’re naturally thinner, leaner, and often find it hard to gain weight. They also have a fast metabolism.

Perks of being an ectomorph is that, as previously mentioned, they can often eat what they want and don’t have to worry much about gaining weight (but this can obviously be a problem if their goal is to put on weight.)

Mesomorph:

The mesomorph usually has a rectangular-shaped body and muscular build. This type gains fat more quickly than the ectomorph, but they also have an easier time losing weight than endomorphs.

Embracing Holistic Eating Across

All Metabolic Types

Despite your metabolic type, holistic eating can easily be integrated into any of these body types because they’re all perfect for each type. The best way to stay healthy is through a holistic approach.

This means that you should eat foods that are good for your whole body, not just the parts of it you may be able to see in the mirror. Eating well will result in better health and energy levels, as well as improved metabolism.
